Fantasy Impact:Â The Tigers signed reliever Jose Valverde to a minor league deal. Valverde will report to extended Spring Training. The reliever has a May 5th out clause, so he can opt out if he’s not in the majors by then. Valverde was left without a contract to open the 2013 season after serving as Detroit’s closer for the past three seasons. After the Phil Coke/Joaquin Benoit combo proved to be ineffective, Bruce Rondon suffered control issues and the lack of trust in Al Alburquerque it’s clear that the Tigers are willing to give him a shot at closing duties. Fantasy Impact: Hiroki Kuroda was hit on the hand by a line drive, but the x-rays showed no bone damage. Kuroda is expected to stay off the DL and the situation is day-to-day. Owners need to sit him for his next start because hand injuries can cause issues with control.

Fantasy Impact:The Nationals spring training invitee Chris Young was signed to a minor league deal on Thursday. The Washington Nationals plan to send him to Triple-A. Injuries have derailed Young’s once bright career and he is now a shell of his former self.
News: Ludwick to miss three months.
Fantasy Impact: Ryan Ludwick dislocated his shoulder on a head-first slide into third base and will miss at least three months. Chris Heisey figures to receive the bulk of at-bats in the short term. Heisey has hit second in the lineup during the last few games, hitting a home run in Thursday’s game against the Angels. Â Heisey is a must add in NL-only and deep mixed leagues.
News: Phillies claim outfielder Ezequiel Carrera off of waivers from the Indians.
Fantasy Impact: Ezequiel Carrera played for the Indians big league and Triple-A club for the last two seasons. In 2012, the speedy Carrera hit .272 with eight stolen bases in 147 at-bats. The Phillies claimed him and placed him on the 40-man roster. He could provide cheap speed at some point in the 2013 season.
