Paul’s Personal Fantasy Football Picks : Dumps On RB
Print Friendly

Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars RB

There are always players that we have gut feelings about, good or bad, where sometimes statistics can’t measure their fantasy worth. This article is probably the hardest article I’ll write this summer because pointing out RBs that I’m crapping on for the upcoming season can go haywire quickly.  I usually like to identify those players who are holding out or are in their rookie season or have had some kind of injury from the previous year. I present to you five RBs I’m crapping on for 2012.

Maurice Jones-Drew – Jacksonville Jaguars : Fantasy owners have had enough of holdouts. What is pretty cool is the lesson learned by Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson, who is advising MJD not to holdout based on what he went through last season.

As a fantasy owner, I’m staying away from MJD. I don’t want to take a first-round risk if I don’t need to, at least at this point in training camp. If MJD decides to get his ass in gear and show up to camp, well, then I’ll look to draft him in the late first or early second RD.  Until then, I’m advising owners to stay away unless he drops to you in the late second or early third RD. My Projection : 1,050+ YDS, 6 TD, 30 REC 2 TD

Trent Richardson – Cleveland Browns : At the time I finished writing this Trent Richardson had not changed the Fantasy Football universe with his injury. The new sexy rookie RB is here and many fantasy owners seem to want him. Not me. It’s not that I don’t trust Trent Richardson; it’s that I don’t trust the Cleveland Browns. It was obvious that the Browns had to do something in this year’s draft to address the worst running game in the league, but does that make Richardson a must have?  I say no.

Unless the Browns consider running 50-60% of their offense through Richardson, those I’ve spoken to say, expect eight-to-nine men in the box to force whoever wins the QB job to beat them.  Add the fact that there have only been 14 rookie RBs (163 total RB have been drafted 2001-2011) to break the 1,000 yard mark (8.5%) over the last decade (last time was 2008 – Chris Johnson, Matt Forte & Steve Slaton). Oh yeah, and let me ask you this, when are the Browns going to be winning in the fourth quarter? See what I’m saying? Do you really want to acquire a RB that only runs the ball for three quarters? My Projection : 950 YDS, 6 TD, 35 REC 2 TD

Detroit Lions Running Backs : At this point in the pre-season, I say let the debate begin for which RB you’d rather have from the Detroit Lions. For me, Mikel Leshoure is worth drafting over Javid Best, but not by much. Put aside that Leshoure has an awesome name and the fact that he has to miss time because of suspension; will have more upside with Leshoure than with the fragile Best.

In any case, the situation still remains the same in Detroit; throw the ball as much as possible and if needed maybe they’ll run it. It’s just not a good option to have either of these guys on your team. That being said, Leshoure would/could be a nice RB4 for your team and maybe a bye-week fill in, but that is all the expectations you should have for him in 2012. My Projection combined : 950+ YDS, 7 TD, 45 REC 2 TD

Marshawn Lynch – Seattle Seahawks : Bad boys, bad boys, what’cha gonna do, what’cha gonna do when this Skittle eatin, douche bag, grill wearing, wasting his God given talent, wanna-be gangsta RB from Seattle starts running for you? My advice is very simple on Marshawn Lynch, if he falls in your draft, grab him.   Just don’t get caught trying to reach for him early.

The NFL will soon post their potential suspension list and I’m sure Lynch will be on there somewhere.  Currently, he’s a decent RB2 with low-end RB1 ability. Until we find out from the league what will happen with Lynch, it is really hard to say what he’ll do. I’ll base my projections on 14-games. My Projection combined : 950+ YDS, 7 TD, 40 REC 2 TD
