CIA got another “hit” with Rex Brothers, but also “missed” on Jim Henderson, running the official ledger to 17-2. There are still a lot of status changes, which are in yellow.

Pitcher CIA Result Comments
Jim Johnson Hold He has been rockier than expected and leads the majors in BS.
Koji Uehara Hold Only 4/6 in SV/SVO so is vulnerable to a “lose” status
Addison Reed Hold It has been a rough two weeks, as he has blown 3 of his last ten SVO.
Chris Perez Auto Hold Got the job back on 6/29 and converted three straight opportunities.
Vinnie Pestano Lose Since Perez’ return he has had one SVO and blew it. He has one more week before he is a “hit.”
Joaquin Benoit Auto Hold A perfect 6/6 and a K rate over 11. He is safe.
Jose Veras Auto Hold In a bigger market or on a better team he would be a multi-millionaire.
Greg Holland Auto Hold He is rapidly approaching the Best Closer Title.
Ernesto Frieri Auto Hold His skill set has improved a bit and is now above CIA minimums.
Glen Perkins Auto Hold Ho hum
Mariano Rivera Auto Hold Blew a save over the weekend, and was rocky a few weeks ago, but still no worries.
Grant Balfour Auto Hold Still has the most saves without a blown opportunity with 22.
Tom Wilhelmsen Auto Hold Gets a fresh start in a job share with Perez and is 2/2.
Oliver Perez Hold Got the most recent opportunity on July 5 and appears to be in a job share.
Fernando Rodney Auto Hold Has been perfect in his last ten. Again CIA proves to be smarter than me.
Joe Nathan Auto Hold Is arguably the best in the AL right now.
Casey Janssen Auto Hold His K rate is a little worrisome.
National League
Heath Bell Hold Got a stay of execution with JJ Putz needing additional time to build up arm strength. CIA narrowly avoids a “miss.”
Craig Kimbrel Auto Hold Still rock solid but is not the same as he was last year. But who could be?
Kevin Gregg Hold Had a rough week-probably nothing to worry about, but cannot help being a little concerned.
Aroldis Chapman Auto Hold Remember when there was some concern about him? Me neither.
Rafael Betancourt Auto Hold Regained the job to no one’s surprise.
Rex Brothers Lose Lost job- “hit.”
Kenley Jansen Hold I just cannot help feeling Mattingly is looking for any reason to remove him.
Steve Cishek Auto Hold Has been a monster since he got the job back.
Jim Henderson Hold Blew a SVO on 6/30 and that may be his last one. K-Rod was announced as the closer, and CIA gets its second “miss.”
Francisco Rodriguez Auto Hold Has been just fine in the role, and it looks like last year is a distant memory.
Bobby Parnell Auto Hold He has not been nearly as good as in the past, and is in his third year of K rate decline.
Jonathan Papelbon Hold Had a Jim Johnson-esque week of BS but has converted 4 straight since then.
Jason Grilli Auto Hold K rate is still north of 14
Huston Street Auto Hold Hasn’t been superlative, but rolling along in the second tier of closers.
Sergio Romo Hold Still has excellent skills.
Edward Mujica Auto Hold Finally blew a save, and his K/BB is down to a measly 16.00
Rafael Soriano Auto Hold After a slow start he has moved up and up every week and finally reached auto hold status.
