Here are the latest results from the FSWA Award-Winning Closer Identifier Algorithm. The tally is still perfect at 14-0:

Pitcher CIA Result Comments
Tommy Hunter Hold Not a great week and is dropping close to “lose” status, but not close enough to be worried right now.
Joe Smith Auto Hold Still in the mix, so last week’s concern has been temporarily delayed. It may only be a matter of time though.
Ernesto Frieri Auto Hold When a guys gets the job back he gets a fresh start under CIA rules. He converted 2 SVO last week so he has a share of the job at least.
Chad Qualls Hold He converted a save on 5/11 and has only been scored on once in his last 11 appearances. We think the job is his alone for now.
Anthony Bass Lose It was a committee but then Bass blew his last SVO, dropped to “lose” status and Qualls has been very good. He is done most likely.
Brett Cecil Auto Lose He lost the job to Aaron Loup until Janssen is back.
Aaron Loup Lose He stinks, but has stunk a little bit less than Cecil in the manager’s eyes.
John Axford Lose Lost the job and deserved to.
Cleveland Committee Pending For now it is allegedly a committee with the goal of getting Axford back in as soon as possible.
Fernando Rodney Auto Hold K rate is still strong but BB rate is problematic so he is still walking a fine line.
Joakim Soria Auto Hold A perfect 7/7 and has been pitching well so he looks to be in the clear.
Grant Balfour Lose Until his K rate gets back up he will be mired in “lose” status.
Koji Uehara Auto Hold
Greg Holland Auto Hold
Joe Nathan Lose Still in “lose” territory but trending in the right direction. He just needs to keep trending upwards. Only 12.2 IP so may not be that hard to get back to “hold” or better
Glen Perkins Auto Hold In our view he is a top five closer and very dependable.
Matt Lindstrom Auto Lose He has converted his last four SVO so perhaps he is turning it around, but there is a long way to go.
David Robertson Auto Hold Right back where he belongs.
Luke Gregerson Auto Lose Has blown more saves than he has converted.
Jim Johnson Pending Reportedly back in the mix and gets a fresh start. So until he gets an SVO he is “pending.”
National League
Craig Kimbrel Hold with 2 BS in his last ten he cannot get “auto hold” status, but that is only a quibble.
Francisco Rodriguez Auto Hold He has been ridden hard and finally cracked.
Trevor Rosenthal Auto Hold He is a perfect 10/10 but it has not exactly been easy. It is only 16.1 IP but they have been rough..
Hector Rondon Auto Hold As long as the Cubs don’t use him on three straight days again he will be fine. He easily meets CIA minimums.
Addison Reed Hold Reed is getting very close to elite status, if he is not there yet.
Kenley Jansen Hold Like Rosenthal this elite closer has been struggling of late and like K-Rod has been used very hard. Probably nothing to worry about.
Sergio Romo Auto Hold K rate is down but 12/13 with a 4.67 K/BB is not exactly worrisome
Steve Cishek Hold If only he were on a better team.
Kyle Farnsworth Auto Lose Ho Hum, another week and another auto lose status.
Rafael Soriano Hold 7/8 in SV/SVO and, as usual, is below elite status but chugging along.
Huston Street Auto Hold The perennially underrated closer is perfect on the year.
Jonathan Papelbon Auto Hold It has been a nice resurgence and we will see if it continues.
Jason Grilli Auto Lose No word yet on when he is back, but he tossed a bullpen session this weekend.
Mark Melancon Lose His K rate continues to drop, and is now at 6.00
Latroy Hawkins Auto Hold 9/9 in SV/SVO but let’s face it -he has been lucky and terrible.
Aroldis Chapman Auto Hold
Jose Veras
JJ Hoover
Jim Johnson
Jose Valverde
Sean Doolittle
Shawn Kelley
Ernesto Frieri
Sergio Santos
Jonathan Broxton
Josh Fields
Sean Doolittle
John Axford
Luke Gregerson
Brett Cecil
