Yesterday, I gave you the QB’s I have a “Man Crush” on going into the 2014 season, today, the “Douche Bags” I’ll be staying away from on my fantasy team. We all have them, the players that we wouldn’t give a dollar to at a strip club. Yes, they look fancy and smell really good, heck, even some of them have glitter, but all that means is they are hiding something, something that will destroy you and your fantasy football team. So here are three QB’s that I will be staying away from in my drafts over the next several weeks.
Robert Griffin III – You know it sucks for fantasy owners when after WK1 of the preseason, RGIII’s backup is getting more run in the media that he is because of the way he played. A flashy QB who entertains, the problem is experts want to know if he can be a true NFL QB. What I mean is, 1) truly throw the ball downfield 2) be able to sit in the pocket 3) stay healthy. A lot of people I talk to say the mobility is back, let’s hope so for fantasy sake. After scoring seven rushing touchdowns his rookie season with no fumbles lost, RGIII didn’t score a single rushing touchdown and had four fumbles lost. Yes, he has more weapons now with the addition of DeSean Jackson, but the question still remains, can he get the ball down field enough to make him a top QB for where fantasy owners are currently drafting him (sixth best QB)? My answer is no, when you only have three-games all season where you DO NOT throw an INT, I have my concerns.
Tony Romo – A second back surgery! Should I stop writing now? Tony is the guy you love to hate. If you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan you want to donkey kick him in the throat. If you’re a fantasy owner you want to carry his baby. Every year the Cowboys talk about have a more diverse offense, but every year they go back to trying to lean on the gun-slinging arm of Romo. Why don’t I like him this year? I have my concerns with the offensive line, a lot. The Cowboys tried to address the offensive line in the draft, but that won’t equate to Romo picking himself up off the turf. Now don’t get me wrong, he has AWESOME weapons at RB (DeMarco Murray), WR (Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams) and TE (Jason Witten), but when you put everything together, he’s not a QB I want running my team. There are better and safer options later in the draft than Romo.
Ben Roethlisberger – Earlier this summer the Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they would be going back to more of a heavy run option; bad news for Roethlisberger owners. Roethlisberger is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro, the problem however is the Steelers aren’t winning many games (8-8 in 2013) with him chucking the ball all over the field forcing the Steelers to go back to ground-and-pound. Also, with the departure of Emmanuel Sanders to the Denver Broncos, the Steelers WR corp. is depilated. There aren’t too many fantasy owners lining up to select Markus Wheaton or Lance Moore for their team in 2014. Stay away from Big Ben unless you select him as a backup for your bye-week, too much risk involved here.
