2014 Fantasy Baseball Memoirs From the Platoon: April 7-13

When is Brian Dozier a more dangerous hitter than Chris Davis?  Easy, when Dozier gets to feast on left handed pitching.  The Minnesota middle infielder had a 171 wRC+ against southpaws in 2013 while Davis produced 167 wRC+ overall.  Using platoon splits to one’s advantage allows a smart fantasy owner to improve their offense, often cheaply. To begin the season this weekly planner will select hitters who were among the top 30 in wRC+ against pitchers from either side.  Of course most who qualify are universally owned and started, but not all.  Also, SP projections are being made far in advance, some shifting is inevitable.

Derek Norris:  4/13 vs. James Paxton

Brian Dozier:  4/7 vs. Scott Kazmir, 4/11 vs. Bruce Chen, 4/13 vs. Jason Vargas

Marlon Byrd:  none
**Reservedly endorsed due to a high BABIP and low BB/K against southpaws in 2013

Jhonny Peralta:  4/7 vs. Tony Cingrani
**Unenthusiastically endorsed for the same reasons as Byrd

Chris Johnson:  4/13 vs. Gio Gonzalez
**Reluctantly included for the same reasons as Peralta, Byrd

Nick Swisher:  4/9 vs. Eric Stults, 4/10 @ John Danks, 4/11 @ Chris Sale, 4/13 @ Jose Quintana
